The Ufficio Turistico Romano was already founded in 1956 and originally operated as an exchange office for the Bank of Italy, which had no branch office at Ischia in those days.

In those times tourism was a luxury good for the few : with the development of tourist merchandising and the necessity to react to the constantly increasing international demand, Mr. Giovanni Romano founded quickly a proper enterprise and becomes promoter of important initiatives regarding the touristic development of the island Ischia.

In 1959, during his work as agent of the company "Aliscafi Rodriguez", he inaugurated the first hidrofoil connection between Naples and Ischia and by that lays the bottom pilar for the hydrofoil establishment for both private and public transportation in the Gulf of Neaples.

The following years up to nowadays the Ufficio Turistico Romano gets more and more involved in various touristic activities and becomes one of the most important and appreciated travel agencies of national and international interest.
